Star Anise Essential Oil is obtained from the brown-red fruits of the Star Anise plant (Illicium verum), which consist of 8-9 smaller segments containing shiny brown seeds, through steam distillation.

The oil is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with high refractive index. Its aroma can be described as sweet, warm, and spicy. Star Anise essential oil dissolves easily in alcohol (ethanol), vegetable oils, and other essential oils, but is virtually insoluble in water. The oil stabilizes at temperatures below 14°C.

Star Anise Essential Oil has a long-standing tradition in alternative medicine. It acts as an antispasmodic for stomach disorders and helps dissolve thick secretions in the bronchi, making it useful in syrups and drops for cough relief. It is also frequently added to medicinal teas for its pleasant flavor. Additionally, Star Anise oil is found in toothpastes and mouthwashes.

In aromatherapy, Star Anise Essential Oil is used to address accumulated fears, soothing emotional distress and creating a receptive and safe atmosphere.

In cosmetics, it is primarily used in aromatic soaps and other surfactant products, though it is rarely found in perfumes. Star Anise (Glykanisou) is a popular spice in desserts and baked goods, commonly associated with products like liqueurs, ouzo, and sambuca.
