The essential oil of Gaultheria (Wintergreen) is derived from the distillation of the leaves of the plant Gaultheria procumbens. Native to North America, it is known that indigenous people used it as an infusion to address arthritis symptoms.

The essential oil of Gaultheria has a pale yellow color and a scent reminiscent of "medicinal" products. This is no coincidence, as Gaultheria contains methyl salicylate (up to 98%), the main ingredient in the well-known aspirin.

Gaultheria essential oil has numerous uses, as it is considered a strong analgesic and antibacterial. It is ideal for use in massage products targeting muscle pain, rheumatic pain, and arthritis—along with relaxation blends.

Gaultheria essential oil should never be ingested. Its external application is highly effective and sufficient, as a small amount is absorbed by tissues and muscles. However, even external use is not recommended on a daily basis.

This essential oil should be used with caution, as it can be toxic in large quantities. It is quite popular in the athletic community, used in muscle relaxants and pain relief products.

Gaultheria essential oil blends well with: Bergamot, Pine needles, Lavender, Mandarin, Blueberry, Rose, Rosemary, Thyme, White fir, and Ylang-Ylang.
