Lavandin (scientific name Lavandula burnatii), a member of the Lamiaceae family, is a hybrid of the wild lavender of the French mountains (Lavandula angustifolia) and the Spanish lavender (Lavandula latifolia). This hybrid species was developed after World War II due to its abundant flowering and its suitability for mass cultivation in the plains.
The essential oil of Lavandin is obtained from the distillation of the flowering tops of the plant and has a fresh, sweet, floral aroma reminiscent of lavender, but with a distinct "medicinal" undertone due to its camphor content. The main components of its chemical composition are terpene esters: acylic linalyl esters and terpene alcohols: linalool, substances with strong antispasmodic, calming, and relaxing properties.
The Lavandin essential oil from Herbstore.gr is an excellent product with numerous therapeutic properties, similar to those of true lavender, but milder. It is considered a significant natural antidepressant, as it appears to contribute to the "relaxation" of the mind, relieving tension and nervousness and combating sleep disturbances. Due to its strong antispasmodic action, it is recommended for alleviating high blood pressure, palpitations, and irregular contractions, and it significantly aids in relieving muscle pains (cramps, muscle spasms, stiffness), making it a key ingredient in any sports massage oil. Finally, it helps with the natural regeneration of skin cells, thus reducing the appearance of scars and other marks.
The components of Lavandin essential oil also possess medicinal characteristics. Lavandin is often referred to as "cleaning lavender." Its natural effect is quite similar to that of true lavender, lacking only the soothing effect of real lavender. For rheumatic pain, it has analgesic properties when used as a compress. In cases of itching, Lavandin essential oil can neutralize the inflammation of affected skin through its simultaneous anti-inflammatory property. Applications include rubbing, massage, or bath oils. Even in inflammatory skin conditions (general skin diseases), allergies, abrasions, scars, and burns, the ingredients of Lavandin essential oil have beneficial effects. In cases of tachycardia, bath oils, massage, and aromatic candles are recommended to normalize heart rhythm.
In aromatherapy, Lavandin essential oil is often used for its strong antispasmodic and antihypertensive actions against general nervousness and anxiety. It also helps address depressive moods when applied as an ointment, massage oil, bath oil, or in aromatic candles.
