Cajeput (Melaleuca cajuputi) is an evergreen, medium-sized tree from the Myrtaceae family, native to Northern Australia, New Guinea, and Eastern Indonesia, reaching heights of 35-43 meters. Indigenous Australians have long recognized its therapeutic properties, using its leaves as poultices for their analgesic effects and inhaling its steam to treat respiratory infections.
Cajeput essential oil is extracted from the leaves and twigs of the plant through steam distillation, yielding a light yellow oil with a sweet, botanical aroma reminiscent of camphor.
