Ravensara, scientifically known as Ravensara aromatica, also called Madagascar Hovozo (aromatic tree of Madagascar), is a tree from the Lauraceae family native to Japan, Taiwan, Madagascar, Mauritius, and Réunion. It can reach heights of 20 meters and has multiple roots at its base, reddish aromatic bark, and simple elliptical leaves with a green upper surface and small green flowers.

The essential oil of Ravensara is derived from steam distillation of the plant's leaves and is usually semi-transparent with a sweet, earthy scent reminiscent of anise and mint. Its primary chemical constituents include limonene, sabinene, myrcene, linalool, and 1,8-cineole—substances known for their significant antibacterial, antiviral, expectorant, immunostimulant, neurotonic, and revitalizing properties.

Ravensara essential oil is particularly effective in addressing upper respiratory issues such as bronchitis, sinusitis, nasopharyngitis, and paranasal sinusitis, as well as more severe conditions like whooping cough or tuberculosis. It is also recommended as a powerful antibiotic against the flu. Additionally, it is ideal for combating viral infections like herpes, shingles, infectious mononucleosis, and hepatitis. Ravensara is considered an excellent tonic that revitalizes the body from physical and nervous fatigue, alleviating anxiety and nervousness, while also providing relief from depression. Its muscle relaxant and analgesic properties help soothe headaches and significantly relieve muscle aches, cramps, and rheumatoid arthritis pain.
