Rosewood, scientifically known as Aniba rosaedora, is a medium-sized evergreen tropical tree that can grow up to 40 meters tall, endemic to Brazil and Peru, primarily used for its timber. In traditional medicine, it is utilized by the Amazonian Indians for wound healing.
The essential oil is obtained through steam distillation of the tree trunk and has a characteristic sweet, floral, and woody aroma, with a pale yellow, almost transparent color. Its chemical composition mainly consists of monoterpenols up to 95%: linalool, geraniol, sesquiterpenes: α-copaene, and oxides: cis-linalool oxide, all exhibiting strong antibacterial, tonic, antiviral, and aphrodisiac properties.
Rosewood essential oil uplifts the mood, enhances mental clarity, combats depression, stress, and insomnia, and aids in concentration and meditation. It also demonstrates significant aphrodisiac qualities, effectively addressing sexual impotence and frigidity. An aromatic massage with rosewood alleviates tension, unblocks energy points, and helps restore inner balance, harmonizing body and spirit. Furthermore, it effectively boosts the immune system and alleviates headaches, colds, coughs, and fever, while appearing to relieve jet lag. In skin care, it is ideal for restoring and rejuvenating cellular tissues, making it particularly valuable for mature skin, as it is believed to effectively combat sagging, fine lines, and wrinkles. Due to its antiseptic properties, it also aids in addressing a range of skin issues, such as acne, dermatitis, and dryness. Lastly, it is considered an excellent wound healing agent.
The rosewood essential oil blends well with: Lavender, Orange, Lemon, Cedar, Geranium, Cinnamon, Clove, Grapefruit, Mandarin, and Vanilla.
