Sandalwood essential oil has a woody, exotic aroma and is pale yellow to light golden in color. Our essential oil contains 90% santalol. The best quality sandalwood comes from Mysore, India, belonging to the Santalaceae family and is also known as Eastern Indian sandalwood. It is one of the most expensive essential oils on the market and should not be confused with the cheaper Australian sandalwood.
The documented use of sandalwood dates back over 4000 years, transported from India to Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Many temples were built from it, and the Egyptians used the oil for embalming the dead. In its homeland, sandalwood is believed to have a calming effect during meditation. In Tantric yoga, it is said to enhance the union of the senses and awaken sexual energy.
As a massage oil or diluted in baths, pure sandalwood essential oil helps treat urinary tract infections. It is also recommended for chronic respiratory infections, used in steam treatments for bronchitis, cough, sore throat, and asthma. When diluted, it can be effective as a gargle for relief from sore or dry throats. Additionally, it positively impacts various stress-related issues such as insomnia, irritability, sexual frigidity, and impotence.
When used in a lotion or cream, sandalwood essential oil can help heal cracked, dry, or irritated skin due to its excellent moisturizing properties. It alleviates itching and inflammation associated with dry skin and contributes to anti-aging care as well as youthful skin, regulating oiliness. It also acts as a natural insect repellent during the summer months.
The biological properties of sandalwood essential oil have been recognized in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. It has a strong decongestant effect on the venous and lymphatic systems and can be applied to varicose veins and hemorrhoids in the form of essential oil or bath oil. Strong rejuvenating effects have been discovered for irritated skin, dermatoses, or psoriasis, where it can be used as a treatment, bath oil, or through massages. It also has antiseptic effects on the urogenital and respiratory tracts. With massage, rubs, and baths, conditions such as cystitis, bronchitis, or rhinitis can be alleviated. Intense itching can be alleviated by applying sandalwood essential oil as a massage oil. It also has a cardiotonic effect and can be used for hypertension and tachycardia through rubs or bath oils.
