Historical Notes:

Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) has been known since the time of Hippocrates and is considered one of the most aromatic plants despite its bitter taste. In ancient Greece, it was named after Artemis, possibly in her honor, and was used for cases of amenorrhea. Other cultures, such as the Arabs, Egyptians, and Celts, used wormwood as an appetite stimulant. During the Middle Ages, various "magical" properties were attributed to wormwood, believed to protect homes from evil spirits. Additionally, Artemisia is frequently referenced in Greek and Roman texts from the 1st century AD and in Chinese medical literature dating back to 500 AD. The Romans planted it along roadsides, and soldiers would place it in their sandals during long marches to endure better. The belief that the plant soothes wounded and tired feet persists to this day.

CAUTION!

Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) can cause a range of side effects when taken in high doses or used for extended periods. Some possible side effects include:

  • Nausea and vomiting

It is important to use wormwood with caution and to follow the recommended dosage instructions. It should not be used by pregnant women or during breastfeeding, and it is also not recommended for children. The duration of treatment with wormwood should not exceed two weeks.
