The Sarsaparilla tincture is made by soaking the roots of Sarsaparilla in an alcoholic solution (grappa) for a period of 4-6 weeks. During this time, the active ingredients dissolve into the alcoholic solution, creating the tincture.

For centuries, indigenous peoples around the world have used the root of the sarsaparilla plant to treat joint problems such as arthritis and skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis. It was also believed that the root could heal Hansen's disease (leprosy) due to its "blood cleansing" properties.

Sarsaparilla is a broad-spectrum tonic that can support overall bodily function and address diffuse organic issues such as skin diseases and rheumatic conditions. It has also been shown to contain compounds that may enhance testosterone activity in the body.

Mythological Background
The name of the plant comes from Greek mythology. The beautiful nymph Smilax was in love with the young mortal Spartan Crocus. Due to their unrequited love, the young Crocus was transformed by the god Hermes into the plant bearing the same name. Unable to bear this fate, the nymph Smilax pleaded with the gods to transform her into a plant as well, so she could be close to her beloved. The gods granted her wish but, wishing to punish her simultaneously, condemned her to grow farther from the ground where her beloved Crocus lay. Thus, they transformed her into a climbing plant.

Main Benefits and Uses
Sarsaparilla contains a variety of phytochemicals believed to have beneficial effects on the human body. The chemicals known as saponins may help reduce joint pain and skin itching, and also kill bacteria. Other compounds may be useful in reducing inflammation and protecting the liver from damage. It’s important to note that human studies supporting these claims are either very outdated or lacking. The studies referenced below have utilized individual active components from this plant, isolated cell studies, or studies on mice. While the results are intriguing, human studies are needed to validate these claims.

Psoriasis
The benefits of sarsaparilla root for treating psoriasis have been documented for decades. A study found that sarsaparilla significantly improved skin lesions in individuals with psoriasis. Researchers hypothesized that one of the primary steroids in sarsaparilla, called sarsaponin, can bind to the endotoxins responsible for the lesions in psoriasis patients and remove them from the body.

Arthritis
Sarsaparilla is a powerful anti-inflammatory, making it a useful treatment for inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and other sources of joint pain and swelling caused by gout.

Syphilis
Sarsaparilla has shown activity against harmful bacteria and other microorganisms that invade the body. While it may not work as effectively as modern antibiotics and antifungal drugs, it has been used for centuries to treat significant illnesses like Hansen's disease (leprosy) and syphilis. The antimicrobial action of sarsaparilla has been documented in recent studies, with research examining over 60 different phenolic compounds isolated from sarsaparilla against various bacteria and fungi.

Cancer
Recent studies have indicated that sarsaparilla possesses anticancer properties in multiple cancer cell lines and in mice. Preclinical studies on breast and liver cancer tumors have also demonstrated the anticancer properties of sarsaparilla. More research is required to determine whether sarsaparilla can be used in the prevention and treatment of cancer.

Liver Protection
Sarsaparilla has also shown protective effects on the liver. Research conducted on rats with liver damage found that flavonoid-rich compounds from sarsaparilla were able to reverse liver damage and enhance its functionality.

Improvement of Bioavailability of Other Supplements
Sarsaparilla is used in herbal mixtures as a synergistic agent. In other words, it is believed that the saponins found in sarsaparilla enhance the bioavailability and absorption of other herbs.

Usage Instructions
Tinctures retain all the active ingredients of the herb, are particularly simple to take, and are completely natural. They undoubtedly surpass dietary supplements in pill form, as they do not contain chemicals or preservatives and are absorbed much more effectively by the body.

Herbal tinctures are very potent and should be consumed according to their instructions. The usual dosage is 0.5-1ml (approximately 10-20 drops per day). They should not be consumed during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

The Sarsaparilla tincture is made in Greece under the strictest European regulations, using only pure and tested raw materials.
