Origin: Greece. Imathia region (collected from the Pieria Mountains at low altitude)
Storage: In a dark and cool place (5°C – 15°C)
Preparation:
1 tablespoon of crushed eucalyptus (or 2-3 leaves) is steeped in 1 cup of boiling water in a covered container, left for 5-10 minutes, and strained before use.
For washes: 15 g of crushed eucalyptus leaves are boiled with 1 cup of water for 5 minutes over low heat, left to soak for 1-2 hours, and strained.
Inhalations: Boil a handful of eucalyptus leaves in 1 liter of water (2% decoction), and once it boils, try to breathe in the steam rich in antiseptic essential oils. To inhale more steam, you may need to cover yourself with a sheet over the pot releasing steam, being careful not to burn yourself. This treatment is repeated 2-3 times a day. Eucalyptus also helps in quitting smoking; for this purpose: 1 tablespoon of crushed eucalyptus leaves is steeped in half a liter of boiling water, left for one hour, and then 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of glycerin are added, consumed in 1/4 cup 7 times a day. The treatment lasts 30 days.
Historical Notes:
The first thought that comes to mind is throat lozenges. The name "fever tree" indicates its action against colds. The native habitat of eucalyptus is in tropical and subtropical regions. In Australia, it is the only food source for koalas.
Scientifically Documented Applications:
The E-Commission supports the use of eucalyptus oil for colds and rheumatic complaints. Eucalyptus oil has a multitude of actions, e.g., it kills bacteria and enhances circulation.
