Spirulina is an ancient multicellular microalga that appeared on Earth over 3.5 billion years ago. With its ability to photosynthesize, it absorbs double its biomass in carbon dioxide (CO2) and binds atmospheric nitrogen (N). It has significantly contributed to shaping the modern Earth's atmosphere by enriching it with abundant oxygen. Biologically, it is characterized as a thermophilic organism (optimum 35°C) and alkaliphilic (pH 9-11). Historically, in the 16th century, Spanish conquerors observed the Aztecs collecting spirulina from lakes using fine nets and turning it into cakes, a staple of their diet. Today, this process continues systematically at Lake Texcoco, with a similar method used in Chad, Africa, where spirulina is a key component of the local diet, especially for pregnant women and in local medicine. After World War II, German and French researchers studied spirulina in detail. In 1967, it was declared “the extraordinary food source of the future” by the International Association of Microbiologists. More recently, NASA selected spirulina as the main food source for astronauts.

Biochemical Composition of Greek Bio-Spirulina:

Spirulina contains about 100 substances and simple elements.

  • Protein: 60-70% by dry weight. It contains all essential amino acids and ten non-essential ones, making it a "complete" protein that surpasses milk, meat, and egg proteins, with 95% solubility.
  • Vitamins: Contains vitamins B-1 (thiamine), B-2 (riboflavin), B-3 (niacin), B-6 (pyridoxine), B-9 (folic acid), B-12 (cyanocobalamin), vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, biotin (H), folic acid, inositol, and provitamin A.
  • Essential Fatty Acids: High content (30-60%) of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), particularly omega series fatty acids such as gamma-linolenic (ALA), linoleic (LA), stearidonic (SDA), eicosapentaenoic (EPA), docosahexaenoic (DHA), and arachidonic acid (AA), palmitic acid, and oleic acid.
  • Minerals: Contains calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, manganese, phosphorus, copper, selenium, iron, and zinc. It is iodine-free.
  • Photosynthetic Pigments: Chlorophyll, phycocyanin, carotenes, xanthophyll, canthaxanthin, beta-cryptoxanthin, and phycobiliproteins.
  • Nucleic Acids: Contains ribonucleic acid (RNA) and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).

Our spirulina is a microscopic plant developed from a "seed" sourced from one of the largest universities in Germany, which hosts the world's largest algae bank. As a plant, it is an amazing organism that has existed and reproduced for 3.5 billion years, to which we owe our existence (first O2 production). It is the only plant cultivated in circular ponds seeking its food and solar energy in the form of photons, certain wavelengths of the light spectrum. Before reaching you, it has "traveled" about 40 kilometers, equivalent to a marathon.

Beneficial Properties:

The various components provided by spirulina are fully water-soluble and easily digestible, offering extra energy, addressing deficiencies in daily nutrition, and restoring proper metabolic balance. It enhances performance in mental and physical work, sports, and the desire for competitive distinction in modern environments.

According to an official publication from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (Circular 1034 FIMA/C1034 (En), 155N 2070-6065 of 2008), spirulina is recognized for its potential use in supplementary healing for various diseases or health issues. Its most significant benefit is the enhancement of the immune system through Phycocyanin, which drastically reduces blood lipids and combats feelings of "fatigue" by increasing levels of immunoglobulin A (IgA) and M (IgM).

Proteins, vitamins, minerals, and polysaccharides improve all physical performance, especially in athletes. In weightlifters, it increases lung capacity without affecting blood pressure.

The dry biomass of spirulina contains up to 2% gamma-linoleic acid (GLA), a percentage equal to that found in maternal milk. This high percentage aids in arthritis, obesity, cardiovascular issues, and zinc deficiency syndrome.

Spirulina has been shown in studies conducted in Germany and Japan to reduce cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoproteins in the blood, benefiting the fight against atherosclerosis.

Due to its very high content of organic, readily absorbable iron, spirulina helps correct anemia, low hematocrit, and premenstrual syndrome.

Current studies are investigating spirulina's positive effects in cancer prevention (leukemias), protection for individuals undergoing radio-chemotherapy, and its antiviral action supporting those infected with the AIDS virus.

Due to its remarkable properties in both nutrition and the prevention of serious diseases, the UN funds extensive programs for the production and distribution of spirulina, mainly for children in Africa, Asia, and South America.

Μπράβο στήν ἑταιρεῖα γιά ὅλα τά προϊόντα της!<br /> Ἡ σπιρουλίνα ὄντως βοηθᾶ γενικῶς τόν ὀργανισμόν. Μόλις μέ λίγες ἡμέρες χρήσης αὐξήθηκε τό ἐπίπεδο ὀξυγόνου εἰς τό αἵμα καί ἡ αἱμοσφαιρίνη!
