Like all the base oils we produce, Mastic Oil is made with extra virgin olive oil that is processed with our herbs in their fresh form. Research has shown that when base oils are made with fresh herbs (like ours), they yield 100% of the properties they can provide, unlike commercial oils made with dried herbs, which yield only about 50%.
Mastic Oil from Chios is used in its edible form (2-3 tablespoons daily) for cholesterol issues and significantly affects liver function by activating its detoxifying activity. Mastic oil also acts against certain viruses. Its action spans two entirely different microorganisms: bacteria and viruses. Among the viruses that research has indicated mastic is effective against is Herpes Simplex, which manifests on the skin, primarily on the lips but also on the genitals. It helps treat peptic ulcers due to its antimicrobial properties against the Helicobacter pylori bacteria. It has also been found to have anticancer properties! On the skin, it promotes tightening, anti-aging, and whitening effects. If used from a young age, your skin will remain youthful. If started at an older age, you will see rejuvenation. It is not surprising that in America, surgeons use Mastic for healing and restoring wounds! Applying ground mastic to the eyes with honey for an hour creates a powerful anti-aging mask! Mastic oil has anti-inflammatory properties attributed to the oleanoic acid it contains. It acts healing, resolving inflammation in specific organs, from periodontal disease to esophagitis, gastritis, duodenal ulcers, and even hemorrhoids. However, even if you do not have any of these issues, using it still helps rejuvenate and protect them. It combats indigestion and bloating. It also provides strong antioxidant properties that neutralize free radicals. Mastic oil has analgesic properties for teeth with cavities and combats periodontal disease and bad breath. It prevents tooth decay by actively inhibiting the formation of microbial dental plaque. You can use mastic oil in facial creams due to its property to cleanse the face and give it a brighter complexion. It is also successfully used in hand creams, body lotions, shower gels, soaps, etc. It is an important dietary supplement, especially in cases of mineral deficiencies. In cooking, Arabs consider it a luxury to flavor food, sweets, or milk with mastic oil. Mastic oil adds a wonderful taste and aroma to bread as well.
Mastic Oil can be used alone or in combination with other base oils for even better results. Finally, it is important to know that base oils are essential in aromatherapy as they serve as the "carrier" for adding essential oils.
For issues like irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion, bloating, and gas, we combine Mastic Oil from Chios with sage oil.
