The use of clay for therapeutic purposes dates back to ancient times. We know that the Ancient Egyptians, Australian Aborigines, Native Americans, Indians, Chinese, and even the Ancient Greeks and Romans used clay for healing reasons.
Depending on its origin and composition, clay appears in various shades. Green Clay (French Green Clay) consists of mineral elements and plant components (mainly seaweeds and algae). It is particularly rich in magnesium, potassium, calcium, manganese, copper, dolomite, phosphorus, cobalt, and many other minerals.
Clay has been known since antiquity for its cleansing properties. Thanks to its rich detoxifying and antibacterial qualities, it effectively removes all kinds of microorganisms that penetrate the skin's pores. By systematically removing all forms of pollutants and oxidizing molecules from the skin, we reduce the chances of premature cellular deterioration, absorbing everything that accumulates on the surface, which contributes to the dull, lifeless appearance of the skin.
Ideal for oily, combination, and acne-prone skin, Green Clay is perfect for balancing oiliness on the skin. This powerful clay absorbs excess oil that can clog pores and lead to acne and imperfections, while also acting as a strong deep cleanser that helps balance the skin's pH levels. As a bonus, Green Clay stimulates cell regeneration, leaving you with glowing skin.
How to Use
It can be used both internally and externally. Green Clay is edible and certified for safe use.
For internal use, mix 1 teaspoon of clay in at least 250ml of water. Allow the Green Clay to settle at the bottom of the glass, then drink the mixture (the water) without the clay that is at the bottom, followed by another glass of 250ml of pure water. It is also suggested to add dietary fibers (such as psyllium, apple fiber, etc.) to the solution to aid in moving the clay through the digestive system.
The clay can also be used as a bath. Add 1 to 2 cups of clay to your warm bathwater and soak in it for at least 30 minutes for best results.
A foot soak is also useful for detoxification; add 3 to 4 tablespoons to a tub of warm water and soak your feet for at least 30 minutes.
Today, Green Clay is considered ideal for detoxifying the skin. Its main purpose is to "cleanse" the skin, as it helps eliminate toxins and contributes to toning and tightening the skin through improved local blood circulation. Aestheticians use Green Clay for facial care, specifically for "cleansing" the pores and "enriching" the skin with nourishing minerals.
Green Clay has the property to "detoxify" the skin by removing the "impurities" that accumulate in the pores. It is commonly used as a "beauty mask" (alone or combined with essential oils). Individuals with dry skin should not use Green Clay more than once a week, as it tends to reduce moisture levels in the skin.
Use Green Clay in a "mask" form (simply mixing it with water) to detoxify and "nourish" your skin. Add a little Aloe Vera if your skin is sensitive or a few drops of Jojoba oil if your skin is particularly oily.
Skin Type: Suitable for oily and acne-prone skin.
Characteristics: Absorbs excess oil, cleanses pores, and has anti-inflammatory properties. Ideal for cleansing masks.
For External Use as a Mask for Oily Skin:
- 1 tablespoon Green Clay
- 1 teaspoon honey
- A little warm Cucumber Hydrosol
Apply to the face and leave for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove with lukewarm water. A few minutes after application, the clay will dry.
Apply your chosen mask twice a week. Ideally, using a brush, leave it on for 5 to 20 minutes and remove it with plenty of water.
Various hydrosols, oils, and essential oils can also be added to mask preparations.
If you are making soaps, Green Clay will impart unique properties to your creations and give a completely natural soft green color to your soap.
