Since the 12th century, Matcha tea has been celebrated in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony known as Chado, or "Way of Tea." Using ancient techniques, the green tea leaves are shaded for 30 days before harvest. This shading allows the tea leaves to become rich in chlorophyll and amino acids. Once dried, the leaves are ground into a fine powder, resulting in the vibrant green Matcha tea. There are various ways to enjoy Matcha, from the traditional tea ceremony to everyday iced Matcha lattes.
Matcha is the fastest-growing powdered green tea used to create nutritious and detoxifying beverages worldwide, though it has been valued for its nutritional properties in China and Japan for over 900 years.
Green Matcha tea is a healthy natural drink known for its antioxidant and detoxifying properties.
Daily consumption of green Matcha tea can offer the following benefits:
- High Levels of Antioxidants: Studies suggest one cup of Matcha equates to at least ten cups of other green teas in terms of nutritional value and antioxidant content.
- Promotes Calmness and Energy: It provides relaxation while also boosting energy.
- Fights Free Radicals: Free radicals can damage tissue cells and DNA, leading to premature aging and increased risk of cancer.
- Detoxifying: Due to its high chlorophyll content, Matcha is an excellent detoxifying drink that cleanses the blood by eliminating unwanted toxins from the body.
- Nutrient-Rich: It acts as a high-quality daily multivitamin, rich in minerals and trace elements, and a great source of vitamin C, as well as important minerals like selenium, zinc, and magnesium.
- Contains L-Theanine: A unique amino acid found almost exclusively in green tea, which can improve mood and concentration while reducing anxiety and stress, creating a perfectly balanced state of relaxed alertness.
- Healthy Coffee Substitute: Matcha powder has much less caffeine than coffee, providing a steady release of energy without the sudden spikes in cortisol levels associated with coffee.
- Helps Maintain Stable Blood Sugar Levels: This can reduce the risk of conditions like diabetes.
- Heart Health: Studies show that green tea can lower cholesterol levels and the risk of liver disease, as well as reduce the risk of heart disease and help prevent many forms of cancer.
Organic Matcha green tea powder is suitable for cooking and drinking and can be used in various ways:
- As tea, complementing it with a few drops or a slice of lemon.
- As a latte with hot water instead of coffee.
- In milk. Experiment with almond milk or other beverages of your choice, like coconut milk.
- In juices.
- In morning smoothies for a natural boost.
- In foods, salads, fruit salads, yogurt, and even desserts.
- In cake, muffin, bread, or ice cream recipes for a wonderful aroma and taste.
Recipe Idea: Nut milk, matcha, and 1 teaspoon of honey.
Matcha can also be used as an ingredient in baking, ice creams, chocolates, and dairy beverages.
The intense dark green color is due to a pre-harvest shading process that increases the plant's chlorophyll levels. Only the leaves are ground after drying.
A key feature is the high catechin content (antioxidant compounds), which is significantly higher than in any other tea variety.
Anti-Aging Properties: Catechins protect skin health by slowing down aging. The antioxidants and antimicrobial elements protect dental health and reduce the appearance of bacteria in the oral cavity.
The antioxidants protect heart health against various diseases and help lower cholesterol.
Matcha has nearly zero calories, and its consumption helps boost metabolism, increase energy expenditure, and assist in faster fat burning and toxin elimination.
Important Note: Matcha is particularly high in catechins, especially EGCg, which has cancer-fighting properties.
It helps mitigate the effects of free radicals from pollution, UV radiation, and chemicals, which can damage cells and DNA. Since over 60% of the catechins in Matcha are actually EGCg, a daily regimen of Matcha can aid in restoring and maintaining well-being and body balance.
A cup of Matcha tea has the nutritional value of about 10 cups of regular green tea.
Another benefit is its contribution to brain function. Studies have shown that those who consumed 2-4 grams of Matcha daily significantly improved their concentration, reaction times to stimuli, and memory.
For well-being and relaxation! The L-Theanine content in Matcha helps reduce anxiety, relaxes the body and mind, and increases the brain's ability to concentrate without causing drowsiness. This is why it is consumed as a beverage by yogis before any meditation session.
Preparation of Matcha Tea:
In a small bowl, sift 1-2 teaspoons of Matcha powder (depending on how strong you want your drink). Add a small amount of hot water (ideal temperature is 70 degrees Celsius) and whisk with a bamboo whisk until a uniform mixture forms, creating froth on the surface. Then add the remaining hot water and enjoy.
Tips: The flavor is quite strong, so you can add a bit of honey, sugar, or vanilla flavor. To enjoy it as a cold beverage, simply use cold water after dissolving it in hot water. You can also substitute water with fresh milk.
Frozen Matcha:
In a blender, add about 10-12 ice cubes, 200 ml fresh milk, 2 teaspoons of Matcha tea, a vanilla pod, and a tablespoon of honey. Adding banana, apple, strawberries, or fresh blueberries creates a refreshing and delicious smoothie.
Matcha tea is a unique powdered tea with a deep green color, originating from Japan, where it is primarily used in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. It comes from the young tips of the green tea plant. Three weeks before harvest, the plant's leaves are shaded, increasing their chlorophyll levels, rich in nutrients. After harvesting, the leaves are steamed to halt fermentation, preserving these elements. Once dried, they are stone-ground into a vibrant green powder.
Matcha is rich in catechins, carotenoids, and vitamins A, B, C, containing 137 times more antioxidants than regular green tea, due to consuming the entire tea leaf, not just the infusion. The caffeine content in a cup of Matcha is only about 30mg, while coffee contains 120-150mg. What makes Matcha beneficial for both the body and our psychology is the amino acid L-theanine. It has been observed that L-theanine increases the activity of alpha waves in the brain, associated with alertness. Alpha wave levels drop when we are tired, and thus Matcha combats fatigue.
Matcha is typically prepared in two forms: Usucha and Koicha.
Usucha (recommended for daily consumption) means "thin tea" and is the most common. In Japan, it is served in every restaurant. On the other hand, Koicha is "thick tea" and is used in traditional ceremonies. The preparation of Koicha requires less water but more Matcha powder compared to the first method.
